What is trademark monitoring and why it is important
Nov 2018
Recently, a primary school in Taiwan successfully registered its school badge as a trademark. It issued warning letters to the merchants to prohibit them from selling school uniforms and hats with the badge on. It also stated its right to request a compensation for selling the related products.
Trademark monitoring means keeping an eye on whether there are third parties applying for trademarks which are similar to yours. This enables you to take action to stop the application at an early stage.
Another kind of monitoring service is to check if your trademark is used by others without authorization, like the Taiwan case mentioned above. If there is unauthorized usage, holder of the trademark has the right to request the other party to stop using it.
So, it is very important to monitor your trademark after getting it.
You can of course monitor the trademarks by yourself, but we as professionals can ensure maximum protection for your trademarks by conducting a more accurate and comprehensive monitoring work and providing legal advice. Contact us if you have any enquiry regarding trademark monitoring and we can tailor-make a monitoring plan that suits you the best.
